Cokes, Stomach Acid and Gatorade

What do Cokes, Stomach Acid and Gatorade all have in common?  They all lower the pH of your  mouth below the critical level and cause decay!

Cokes (sodas if you don’t know what I mean) all have a pH  very  similar to stomach acid– 2.4!

Tooth Decay (cavities) can occur on teeth at 4.5 to 5.5 and on root surfaces at 6.7!!  Neutral pH is 7.0- not acidic, not alkaline.

So, you can  protect your teeth and roots by reducing the times per day that  your oral pH falls below the  critical level of 6.7 or below!  You can raise the pH of your mouth by chewing and then swishing with an Anti-acid such as Rolaids or Tums.  You can remineralize  the  surface layer of tooth enamel or root surfaces with MI paste which has Calcium phosphate, provided the decay has not gone through the outer layer of the tooth  (enamel) into dentin.

More to come, soon!
