TMJ Syndrome Cluster

“TMJ” or TMD – Temporo-mandibular Dysfunction is characterized by a group of several conditions including Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue syndrome, and Hypothyroidism. The wear and tear of the teeth is only a sign of the disturbance. The thing that is the most irritating to suffers of TMJ is usually the mystery of how it all starts and what to do about it.

There is no easy fix for TMJ, there is however a therapy/protocol for those who seek help from a dentist who is familiar with the hormone connection to the dental affects of clinching and grinding. The origin of TMJ is not necessarily the dental part of the syndrome. Headache, migraines, musculoskeletal ahces and pains, joint pain and arthritis are often associated with TMJ. Many dental bite issues are common to TMJ–some post-orthodontic situations are more often present in the syndrome. Nutrition, food allergies, hormone imbalances, and lifestyle are huge players in the game of TMJ.

One of the worst things TMJ sufferers can do is use drinks like sodas and sports drinks. Other things to avoid are heavy chewing, especially gum, caffeine, alcohol and sugar. There are lifestyle habits that become more important with this delicate condition like sleep, water intake and exercise. Stress relievers like Yoga and Tai chi are scientifically proven to improve the musculoskeletal aches and pains of the syndrome.
